(via Rafe Bartholomew Interviews Don DeLillo About Underworld and Bobby Thomson’s Shot Heard ‘Round the World - Grantland) Nice interview with DeLillo, one of the great American Novelists. ‘Underworld’ and David Foster Wallace’s ‘Infinite Jest’ are likely the two best ‘sports’ novels I have ever read. Both of them use sports (baseball and tennis) to explore the notion of an American Dream gone awry. Both also have a bizarre obsession with garbage.
